Children are welcome at all the Masses. Our children’s liturgy group meets during the 9am Mass on Sundays.
The children come to Mass with their parents, and are called up to the front of the Church by Fr Duncan just before the Penitential Rite.
They are then welcomed by Father Duncan and invited to process into the Becket Centre for their own liturgy of the word with our catechists, to return at the offertory to show and tell the rest of the congregation what they have been learning about and doing.
The idea of children’s liturgy is to present the Gospel to children in a way that they can understand.
We use versions of the Gospel stories that have been written for children, as well as songs, craft and baking activities which link with and reinforce the Gospel message.
The children have their own garden around the grotto of Our Lady in the front garden of the Presbytery. This was planted by the children on Remembrance Sunday 2011.
In 2010 the material prepared by one of our Catechists for our children’s liturgy group to commemorate the Papal visit was published by Alive Publishing.
The booklet went on to sell 60,000 copies nationally.
